There are two types of clauses:

i. Main Clauses
ii. Subordinate Clauses

A] Main Clauses:

Main clauses have a subject and object and they make complete sense on their own.

e.g.: – They had their lunch, as they came from the school.

  • The had their lunch – Main clause.

B] Subordinate Clauses:

Subordinate clauses contain a subject and a verb, but they need to be attached to the Main Clause because they do not make sense on their own.

e.g.: as they came from school – Subordinate Clause.

When two or more Main clauses are joined together by connectors such as and, but, nor, yet, or, so, and for, these connectors are called Coordinators.

e.g.:
➻ She went to the garden, Playing football in a bigger space.
➻ She went to the garden for playing football in a bigger space.

So in this sentence – “for” – is the coordinator.

When a Man Clause is joined to one or more subordinate Clauses using connectors such as while, when if, because, so that since, etc. the connectors are called Subordinators.

e.g.: She went to the school when it was early morning – (When – Subordinator)
