Q. a. : What are the aspects considered in the structure of population?
Ans: The structure of population is studied using the following aspects:
Literacy structure: It shows how many people can read and write and how many cannot.
Sex structure: It shows how the population is divided into males and females.
Age structure: It shows how the population is divided according to age groups.
Occupational structure: It shows how many people are working and how many are dependent.
Rural–Urban structure: It shows how many people live in rural areas and urban areas.

Q. b. : Prepare a list of advantageous and disadvantageous factors, affecting population distribution.
Ans:

Population distribution is affected by many factors. Some factors help people to settle in an area, while others make it difficult to live there.

Ans : Population density means the number of people living in a certain area.

Formula:
Population Density = Total Population ÷ Total Area

Problems of high population density:

  1. Pollution: More people cause air, water, and land pollution. Due to an increase in land degradation by making houses and flats, land pollution will be caused, water will be contaminated by a huge number of people, resulting in water pollution and huge number of vehicles will cause air pollution.
  2. Overcrowding: Too many people create noise, stress, and disturbance.
  3. Less open space: Parks and open areas become very limited.

Q. d. : What arc the problems in area of low population densities?
Ans: The development of a country depends upon its size of population. A lower population is somehow manageable and resources can be distributed equally. But, sometimes the low population leads to lower demands of goods and services and lower tax revenues for the government to provide goods and services.

Q. a.: Population is an important resource.
Ans: The economic and cultural progress of a country depends on the number of people and their skills and abilities.
If a country has too many people but low skills and education, its development is slow.
If a country has the right number of people with good education and skills, it grows faster.
Therefore, population is a very important resource.

Q. b. : Productive population is an important group.
Ans : People between 16 and 59 years are called the productive population because they can work.
– People below 16 years and above 60 years are called the dependent population because they do not usually work.
– The productive population works in jobs, services, and businesses, so they help the economy grow.
– If a country has more young and productive people, it develops faster.
Therefore, the productive population is very important.

Q. c. : The study of age structure is important.
Ans: The study of age structure helps us understand how many children, young people, adults, and old people are in the population.
– It helps to know how many people are working (16–59 years) and how many are dependent (below 16 and above 60 years).

So, the study of age structure is important.

Ans: Sex ratio means the number of females for every 1,000 males.
Formula:
Sex Ratio = (Number of females ÷ Number of males) × 1000

– If there are fewer females per 1,000 males, the sex ratio is low.
– If there are more females per 1,000 males, the sex ratio is high.
– According to Census 2011, Kerala had the highest sex ratio (1084).
Maharashtra had a sex ratio of 929.

Ans: Age structure means dividing the population according to different age groups.
– It helps us know how many children, young people, adults, and old people are in the population.
